Yep. Totally agree. People engaged in sensible established street-front businesses haven't go the time it takes to invest dozens of hours to fight the web system to earn threepence a month on adwords and adsense and for that matter even optimising your website for search engines. You get more business the traditional way – making relationships work, phone calls, sales visits, letters, schmoozing, and by referrals from doing a good job.

Hi Michael
Your point of difference here is what is often missing in the way people network or netplay. If they netWORK they have an ojbective, like you did in by reverting back to Sarah. When they netPLAY they have no real plan, no intent and no action to follow up. Success from a networking event is determined before we often enter the room. You are clearly well prepared. Well done,
Ricky Nowak CSP.

I agree. Poor communication (especially in large companies) is an ongoing problem. I would like to think it is mostly thoughtlessness.

This is complex topic. The issues around the complexity of business and managing staff through ever evolving changes is extremely challenging.

Middle management, in many cases promoted before their time, seem to lack communication skills and struggle with dealing with employee related issues.

More timely training is required focusing on people management and communication skills.

All staff feel better when they are informed of both the good and the bad but they ofter reveal in surveys that they rarely her anything about the business from anyone!

Hello Colin and Michael,

I believe that you should post a minimum of three posts per week and focus on interesting and valuable content. See this post on my blog which talks about this:
http://www.chadbarr.com/how-often-should-i-post-on-my-blog/

Also, there are additional ways of marketing the blog other than just posting and hoping that people will come.

Best,

Chad
